They invited me and a friend down to try the new dishes to see what I thought. I was excited to try the new vegan stuff and I havent been to a yo for ages so it was a great opportunity to try everything.
I’m lucky that they have a Yo Sushi here in Brighton and must try to refrain from going every week. I could go for the unlimited Green Tea and Miso Soup alone!
I love that you can grab sushi from the conveyor belt and also request hot dishes and other things you fancy as/when. Just press the call button on your table if you would like them to make you something and someone will come over.
The Soup was the best Miso I’ve ever had. It’s made properly with silken tofu and greens. The little bowl and spoon were also really cute – I need to get myself some.
Everything was brightly coloured and tasted so fresh. Japanese is my favourite food and I eat at so many places that I like to think I know good food when I taste it.
I started by taking some items from the conveyor belt. They had lots of green available so I was in my element.
I really enjoyed the Harusame Aubergine (Fried slices of aubergine in a garlic, ginger, sesame & soy dressing) & Kaiso Seaweed (Marinated mixed seaweed, edamame & carrot in a su-miso dressing.) The dressings used for both were lovely and perfect for dipping your sushi or gyoza in.
The food and the service were amazing – no complaints here. I also left with an addiction to the pumpkin katsu bites which are little bites of heaven.
They reminded me of fried cheese like the cheese bites you can get in McDonald’s and places like that, only not dairy and 100x nicer.
Naturally sweet, crispy bites of kabocha pumpkin, drizzled with tonkatsu sauce.
I wanted to try all the new dishes as well as everything else they had on offer. I love how most things I consumed were green veggies so how unhealthy could the meal be really? ha!
Vegetable Gyoza: Spinach dumplings filled with cabbage, carrots, edamame & more veggies. Served with soy vinegar.
These were crispy and just a great texture, really good.
NEW Glazed Aubergine Nigiri: Teriyaki glazed aubergine on sushi rice, wrapped with a nori band.
Was nice but didn’t enjoy it as much as the Harusame Aubergine.
NEW Avocado Nigiri: Avocado topped rice with a nori band & a touch of vegan mayo.
These have always been a favourite of mine and I always get avocado sushi wherever I go. I love the addition of vegan mayo!
NEW Yasai Roll: Inari, avocado, cucumber, cos lettuce and carrot roll, topped with teriyaki & vegan mayo.
All the best things in one tidy little package, love it! Would make a great lunch.
NEW Mushroom Teriyaki Burger: Braised slices of shiitake mushroom in teriyaki sauce, served with cucumber & pickled red onion, in a steamed bao burger. 210 kcal – the healthiest burger you’ll probably ever eat.
These little buns were so moreish and flavourful, really enjoyable. They’re like cute little Japanese sliders, I absolutely love it! Probably my favourite new menu item, It’s delicious and innovative.
All this deliciousness was scoffed down with green tea and marble soda (A traditional Japanese drink like lemonade but lighter. It’s been a favourite of mine for many years.)
We finished the meal with some fruit and the new miso chocolate pudding. A nice rich pudding which was the cherry on top of a lovely meal. I definitely recommend you try it.
