Vegan Life Live (London) ’18

I attended Vegan Life Live on the Saturday (10th Feb) at Alexandra Palace in London. From the minute that I arrived at Victoria, I felt overwhelmed by the bustling city. I usually get really nervous on the morning of events but after I’ve had some time to adjust to the crowds of people I know usually have my bearings.

This was probably the busiest show day of Vegan ice Live but I had no idea the scale of the event would be so big. I wasn’t able to catch up with several friends that I planned on seeing as the venue was so big and busy that I just couldn’t find anyone.

I was excited to watch some of the cooking demos etc and try some of the amazing food that they had on offer. I didn’t end up watching anything as when I went to watch a couple of things I guess they were cancelled or something as no one showed up.

I used it for some sit-down and kebab scoffing time. I must’ve looked like a ravenous dog eating that thing but I gave zero fucks at this point. I was frustrated that I couldn’t find anyone, had heavy bags and wasn’t doing well with the crowds.

What the pitta

I dropped my phone on the floor while queuing for what the pitta and struggling with all my bags. I have never been in such a panic! After that around 3, I was done, I couldn’t put myself through it any longer and my stress levels were through the roof by this point. Luckily for me the women behind me handed my iPhone to security who were nearby, I managed to get my phone back and all was well.

I loved looking at all the food available for lunch and all the sweet treats spread all over. I could’ve bought everything tbh… But I got a cookie sandwich and a slice of a cheesecake type thing. There’s always so many sweet treats at these things which I’m a big fan of. I always end up buying so many cakes and brownies because who can resist something so beautiful and tasty.

London vegan bakery

I loved the colours and imaginative flavours at the London Vegan Bakery stand. I only got a cookie sandwich because my purse had moths coming out of it at this point but I would’ve loved some PB cups, the cute v day treats and some of those incredible cupcakes. The parma violets ones looked particularly dreamy.

Elspeths Kitchen

I found the beauty outweighed the taste with my cherry dessert. I love all the beautiful colours and ingredients used but for a small slice that cost £4, I was a little disappointed I must say. But if you’re looking for something that photographs beautifully you really can’t go wrong. I would love to try more to see if I can taste the fruit and not just coconut. I’m going to make some of my own desserts like this soon so want to see how they compare taste wise.

One Planet Pizza

I tried to catch my friends at opp but missed them. I chatted to one of the co-founders for a little while hoping I might spot Ben & Helen around the food court. I wasn’t hungry and was trying to find my friends so gave it a miss. BIG MISTAKE! Why oh why didn’t I eat the pizza  – I have nothing but regrets. Luckily for me, I’m sure ill see them again and they sell these in Brighton so it’s all good.

Pink tea

I am obsessed with this pink tea. This stall was by far the cutest one I saw at Vegan Life Live. Soo pretty. And you guys know I’m a sucker for tea. And you can use it to make cakes! I was in love. I didn’t really have any money left at this point so will deffo buy some online at a later date.

Some days you just feel off and you’re not quite sure how that’s going to go. it usually passes and I can pull myself together but this day didn’t seem to work out like that. I just ended up feeling claustrophobic, stressed and anxious.

Most of the stalls were heaving and you couldn’t get anywhere near them so I passed on a lot of places. I didn’t have the great experience at Vegan Life Live that I get from events here in Brighton for that reason.

Aside from all that stuff, I got to catch up with some brands, have a chat with all the magazine editors and try some amazing food.

Highlights

  • Eating what the pitta. Sooo good and I’ve been craving it again ever since
  • The London Vegan Bakery cookie sandwiches
  • The kindness of strangers – getting my iPhone back
  • Feeling proud of myself for staying longer at Vegan Life Live than I wanted to

    1. Well, I’m vegan so don’t eat meat (like a vegetarian) but also no eggs, milk etc. There are so many helpful recipes and guides online and my blog is to help those who want to change their lifestyles. The simple answer to that is stop eating meat and buy/cook vegetarian food. My blog will be a helpful resource I’m sure and the veg society are really helpful too. 1. Looks amazing! Somehow i always end up running out of money at vegan events as well. Those sweets look unreal.

    1. It’s so easily done! There’s always so much food & amazing stuff. I’m incredibly lucky that people are always so lovely and give me a lot too ?The sweet treats were amazing. I’m far too excited to eat some more of these cakes that are currently on route to me. Cannot contain my excitement! ?

  2. Urghhhh I am so so jealous! I would have loved to have gone. I’m glad you had a great time in the end though. There is another vegan event in London on St. Patrick’s Day so hopefully I will make it to that one, I’m just dying to go to one!

    1. Yeah these events are great. I love trying all the food & connecting with people. ?Oh awesome. I bet that’ll be lots of fun. I love food/drink having a theme too. Lots of green things.. ??

  3. Aah I can’t believe we went on the same day!! I always have such mixed emotions when it comes to these events, on one hand I’m so stressed that it’s so busy, but also so happy that there’s a demand for vegan events! Your haul looks sooo good, I never manage to take anything home because I’m always so flustered. Oh, and I’m glad you loved What The Pitta!!

    1. I knowww!! So many people I didn’t see! It was just heaving and the only faces I managed to see that I knew were people who were chained to their stalls ha. Yes omg I’m so glad someone else feels the same way. I always find them so stressful and manic. Brighton events don’t make me feel that way.. and they’re still big.
Thanks. Yeah I always do really well ?It’s so good! I’m always craving it. Love trying food in London. I wish I lived there sometimes. X

  4. Sounds like even though you struggled a little bit you made the most of it and still had a great time! That’s admirable Siobhan! xx
