I’ve been a fan of What The Pitta for years and don’t know why it’s taken me so long to write a review. If you’re into epic junk food and meat subs then you’ll love it here for sure.
I first tried them at an event in London and that’s where they started. I’m very lucky to live in Brighton where they now have their 4th location.
Their Story
We are often asked how our now beloved Vegan Döner Kebab came to be. And, like many great stories, it all started over a cold beer on a hot day in Bodrum. Cem, a historically renowned meat eater, had just dropped the bombshell that he had given up meat and dairy and was now following a plant based diet.
As Cem lamented the lack of choice in quality vegan takeaways, Roexcitedly explained that his uncle in Germany had developed a tasty, and top secret, Vegan Döner Kebab recipe which was really popular in his shop in Freiburg. And, with that simple revelation, What The Pitta was born.
The Food
The main thing What The Pitta is famous for is its award-winning kebab which you can have in many ways. In a wrap, a gyro and in snack boxes (snack box, donner chip box).
Sometimes, you just know you’re on to something special and What The Pitta was created with a whole lot of love. It is a true family franchise which aims to bring a healthier and more ethical spin to a beloved British favourite.

The Gyro is What The Pitta’s latest creation that comes fully loaded with vegan donner, chips, salad and sauce.
The wrap is amazing and perfectly balanced, it’s a new favourite for me and is better than the og wrap in my humble opinion. I know good vegan food and this is it.
It has plenty of fillings, there’s chips in it (a British vegan staple). Chip butty anyone? It’s just so comforting and a really pleasant experience to eat, it just works.
Chips, nuggets & gryo
Maybe brush your teeth after though.. all that onion. It does leave you with seriously stinky breath but for this bad boy who the hell cares! It tastes really good so you should just stuff your face and enjoy. And if you do plan on kissing anyone maybe ditch the onion or better yet pop a mint, onion rules.
Because their kebab meat is so good I expected to be blown away by the nuggets, I wasn’t. They’re nice and a good add on to share I think but I personally wouldn’t get them to eat as the only thing you’re having.

I’ve wanted to try the nuggets for ages but I’m always too full for them, this visit was no exception but I wanted to try them anyway.
They’re standard nuggets with a meatyish texture but don’t beat out this or m&s as these are softer.
Perfect for kids and they kind of just remind me of standard nuggets they would have I guess. The kids at the table next to me were chowing down on them with no complaints so maybe I’m the fussy one.
Tasty enough but wouldn’t give them a 10. I’ve been too spoilt with so much good food and I’m always chasing that meaty texture. Their kebab meat is a tough act to follow… I wouldn’t want to be the nuggets either.

The snack box is great if you fancy just plain and simple meat and chips (this is often the case for me). It’s a smaller portion if you don’t feel starving or like me would eat this with a wrap or gyro as well (don’t judge me).
No complaints ever with this as it features their epic kebab loaded on some hot crispy fries. Winning combo, can’t go wrong with this one. 10/10

I order this one the most as the Donner chip box really does have everything. Meat, chips, salad and all the sauces. It’s so good and I never leave any food behind.
The salad and sauces are totally optional but it makes me feel a bit healthier to have them and I think they taste great together.

I never leave without a piece of baklava, it’s one of my all time favourite sweet treats. This is the best one I’ve ever had, it’s the perfect amount of sweet and sticky with nuts and spices.
If im not too full I’ll have a piece after my food and then take one home as well. Because they are so good and I want to continue the experience. They also sell glazed doughnuts in the Brighton branch which I’ve started to get as well.
