I’ve seen Smorl’s hummus in shops all over Sussex but never knew they had a cafe in Brighton as well. When I was invited down for hummus and falafel (2 of my main food groups) I was excited to go and stuff my face.
What I love about food like this is it’s healthy but it doesn’t feel super healthy if that makes sense? You feel satisfied but I didn’t leave feeling sick and like I had stuffed myself and was now made up of hummus
The cafe is in a great spot in the open market where you can check out the other vegan and eco finds at the stalls or surrounding shops. I noticed quite a few vegan food options in the shops and cafes that surrounded Smorl’s which is awesome.
We decided to try a bit of everything so had some curry with rice, bolognese, falafel and salad and a pitta. All the food was beautifully presented and looked so delicious. I think the salad was my favourite because it just had lots of things on the plate and was a real delight on the taste buds.
A hearty Moroccan-style vegan falafel Bolognese served with Hasselback sweet potato, crunchy pickled cabbage and a good dolloping of Smorl’s Extra Garlic Houmous. Finished with a sprinkling of tamari-infused seeds.
This dish is so beautiful and I loved the hasselback potato. This was too salty for my taste but it’s a lovely balanced dish and I love the take on having it with sweet potato instead of spaghetti. Great dish!
Smorl’s freshly fried Falafels and Smorl’s Original Houmous surrounded by green salad and chive, beetroot and carrot slaw, pearl barley and cashew tabbouleh, quinoa and puy lentil salad, roast Mediterranean vegetables, cinnamon squash, almond tapenade, beetroot caviar, roast cauliflower hazelnut & pomegranate salad, coconut chutney vegan yoghurt, tahini and lemon dressing, chilli and lime dressing, finished with organic tamari sunflower seeds.
This was unreal and I could eat this every day. So many gorgeous colours and flavours really bring this together. Its great to share
A freshly baked pitta pocket lined with Smorl’s Original Houmous, filled with Smorl’s freshly fried falafel, green salad and chive, crunchy d pickled cabbage, fresh vine tomato, almond tapenade, coconut chutney vegan yoghurt, tahini and lemon dressing, chilli and lime dressing, finished with organic tamari sunflower seeds.
You can’t go wrong with a pitta. This was so good but be prepared to get messy ha! I always do with pittas because of the sauce and fillings. I don’t enjoy eating them in public really for this reason but really tasty nonetheless – Everyone should try it.
Check out the menu here.
The food was so good and I can’t wait to go back. Thank you so much for the food and hummus and pitta I got to take home, the thunder garlic is unreal and is my favourite hummus at the moment.
*I received a free lunch but this in no way biases my opinion of the brand. This is an honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I hope you enjoyed this post and that you check them out.
