I was asked by Lorama Foods to review their line of new Vegan Cakes. They’re a local business here in Sussex so jumped at the chance to work with them as I like to support small businesses, especially ones here in Sussex. We have so many great companies down here like The Raw Chocolate Co and Infinity Foods – (who I really love btw).
Only the finest ingredients are used and which have been responsibly and ethically sourced. We aim to use British suppliers for ingredients and packaging and support local suppliers wherever possible.
Lorama foods range of vegan cakes (some gf) are now sold on Amazon and they hope to sell in coop foods soon too.
I was asked to try 5 cakes.
Chocolate, Lemon drizzle, Cherry & Almond, Coffee & Walnut and Farmhouse Fruit Cake.
Without trying them I was sure that lemon drizzle & the chocolate cake would be my favourites.
The packaging is nice looking and all ingredients are clearly marked, including allergens in bold.
We bake small batches and don’t use large machinery as we believe people can produce better quality products through the passion and pride in their work.
The coffee and walnut cake was so delicious. The texture was firm yet soft, not too moist. This cake is lovely with a cup of tea/coffee and enjoyed it a lot. I would say this is one of my favourites out of the loaves. I love cakes with nuts. Would definitely buy again.
The Lemon drizzle was lovely and very lemony. I love the sugar topping. It’s the moistest out of the loaf cakes because of the lemon wash. It slices well and is the perfect addition to an afternoon tea. No compromise on taste and tastes just like a “normal” non-vegan lemon drizzle.?
The cherry & almond was a lovely soft almondy cake that reminded me of marzipan. I’m not a big fan of glace cherries and prefer fresh ones but I thoroughly enjoyed this cake. I like that they don’t skimp on the cherries or almonds. Slices well and goes down a little too easily.?
Farmhouse – Another favourite of mine from the loaf cakes. I didn’t expect to like it so much and expected it to be bland. It’s a lovely texture and has plenty of fruit and flavour. I think it has cinnamon in which makes it into a comforting, lightly spiced cake. I think this is a good all-round cake that everyone would enjoy.
The chocolate cake is fabulous! Perfect for birthdays/occasions. It slices well, is moist and chocolatey. I love the cacao nibs on top for a bit of crunch and hint of sharpness. All the cakes were so good that it’s hard to choose a favourite. This was definitely one of mine, I love chocolate!
The price of this is great & makes buying ready-made cakes for events possible for everyone, not just those who have £70. You can even add your own toppings/candles to personalise it and make it extra special. Not everyone’s a baker or likes cooking so you really can’t go wrong with this cake. Great for kids with allergies, not just vegans. Big thumbs up from me!?
