Disclaimer: This post features some gifted items, but this in no way biases my opinion of the brand/s. I would NEVER recommend something I didn’t love and use myself. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’m very into CBD and also anything period related so I was excited to try out Our Remedy and see how it tackled my PCOS as well as my period.
Our Remedy is a CBD brand with a difference. Led by women, for women who need natural period relief (amongst other things).
80% of women suffer from painful periods at some point in their lives.
Our Remedy is organic, vegan and made with sustainable materials. They even use recycled packaging and print using soy ink
They also offer plastic free re-fills which I love and will definitely be doing. If you have already purchased from them before and have the plastic dropper, keep hold of it and order Our Remedy with an aluminium cap and save £5 off your order.
They also donate compostable sanitary products to a Bloody Good Period – the leading Period Poverty charity.
What is CBD? Will you get high?
CBD is not exactly cannabis. The cannabis plant contains terpenes and cannabinoids. CBD is one of the many cannabinoids in the cannabis plant.
CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant into a distilled oil. In broad spectrum CBD, like Our Remedy, there is no THC, however, terpenes are still present. The terpenes work in synergy with CBD and may have added benefits. The CBD found in the oil may provide the therapeutic benefits, without the ‘high’.
No is the short answer. Cannabis contains THC, which is the cannabinoid that gets you feeling ‘high’. Our Remedy CBD doesn’t contain THC (this is not legal in the UK).
CBD comes from the cannabis plant, however, it is NOT cannabis and doesn’t act the same way in the body as cannabis does. Instead, it may provide therapeutic benefits, reduce inflammation, reduce feelings of anxiety or depression, help ease pain and more.
CBD & period pain
Smooth muscle tissue lines your uterus and this smooth muscle contracts and exacerbates menstrual cramps during your period. CBD has been shown to relax this muscle and bring much needed relief during your period.
CBD also is said that it may interact with CB1 and CB2 receptors. This interaction may impact the way in which pain is perceived, helping it to be reduced.
CBD can help to ease many symptoms associated with your period. Such as:
I love everything about Our Remedy and am definitely a fan for life. Everything about this brand is great and after using the oil for a month found it really helped me.
I experience a lot of pain, anxiety and sleep problems anyway so for me it’s an all round product that helps me every day not just during my period.
I’m very into natural remedies and I’m always trying the latest thing for periods, pain relief and anything vegan and health related. I would much rather know what I’m putting in my body and know its totally vegan rather than reaching for some paracetamol. *There are no known interactions between CBD and ibuprofen or paracetamol. You can take the cbd alongside these if needed.
I’ve had other cbd oils which use the entire plant and no flavourings, they’re pretty grim. Imagine just eating cannabis. Our Remedy has a lovely peppermint flavour infused with clary sage thats not overpowering. It has no adverse side effects and is easy to take.
I’ve definitely been in a lot of pain this past month and it’s really helped me when nothing else worked. I prefer the natural method and like how it makes me feel. Like I’m putting something good and healthy in my body.
Using the cannabinoid could also reduce feelings of stress, helping you to relax. This could also help you get some sleep during periods of insomnia.
I found the oil incredibly helpful with sleep, it really relaxed me and helped me sleep much better. I have such a problem with sleep and have trouble drifting off and wake often.
I fell asleep easier and didn’t wake up anywhere near as much as I did before. Overall Our Remedy gets a huge thumbs up from me.
