I’m a huge fan of ice cream and couldn’t even tell you how many different flavours and brands I’ve tried (it’s a lot). Some are very much the same and don’t try to do anything exciting where flavours are concerned but Fravocado is like nothing else on the market.
The invention came after founder Becky had to give up dairy and started making Fravocado in her kitchen. Made with avocado to get those healthy fats in and coconut for that extra creamy and dairy like consistency. They’re sweetened with agave making all the ingredients much healthier than standard ice cream and not full of refined sugars.
Our entire journey has been founded on the success of our original flavour. A light and airy coconut flavour with a little hint of avocado for good measure.
They currently have 3 flavours available: original, cacao and raspberry & basil with 2 new flavours to launch soon (blueberry & honeycomb).
I like that the ingredients list is clean and simple, no hidden nasties. They taste really creamy and are easily some of the best ice creams I’ve tried.
Original: Avocado & Coconut Ice Cream – 500ml/£5.49
Ingredients: Coconut Milk (67%), Avocado (15%), Agave Syrup, Stabilisers: Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum, Salt.
I loved the subtle hint of avocado in this creamy and versatile flavour. It has a hint of green in the colour too. I think if you like coconut and avocado you’ll definitely love these icecreams. I would say this flavour is the creamiest out of them all.
Raw Cacao: Avocado & Coconut Cacao Ice Cream – 500ml/£5.49
How about an indulgently dark, rich chocolate ice cream using raw cacao for unprocessed goodness. While still hinting a subtle avocado and coconut flavour.
Ingredients: Coconut Milk (67%), Avocado (14%), Agave Syrup, Cacao Powder (5%), Stabilisers: Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum, Salt.
I love chocolate and this reminds me of a chocolate mousse. It has a really nice airy texture and chocolatey flavour. I think many people who still have dairy would love this and perhaps wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
Raspberry & Basil Swirl: Avocado, Coconut, Raspberry & Basil Ice Cream – 500ml/£5.49
Ingredients: Coconut Milk 67%, Avocado 15%, Raspberries, Agave Syrup, Lime Juice, Stabilisers: Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum; Salt.
Our original flavour with an added swirl of sweet raspberry basil sauce. A sophisticated version of the traditional raspberry ripple with completely natural ingredients.
I haven’t tried this flavour but it sounds so good.
Salted Caramel & Honeycomb – This has a really nice flavour and like the cacao, the coconut becomes more of a background taste and isn’t at the forefront. The same airy texture while being rich and creamy, this is a great flavour. I’ve tried lots of salted caramel and these sorts of flavours and some are very artificial and not nice, this ticks all the boxes. So yummy.
Blueberry & Lavender – This one sounds really nice and I’m a huge fan of blueberries and lavender. Sadly it falls short for me and I could mostly taste the coconut and the other flavours don’t come through that much. It’s a great idea but I would love to taste more of the sweet berry and floral taste as that’s what the flavour is supposed to be. Nevertheless, it’s a nice creamy ice cream like the other flavours.
You can find Fravocado in Waitrose & Wholefoods as well as other small independents. Check their full list of stockists here.
